PNY Elite-X 64GB

PNY is a brand that I’ve long been aware of. Founded in New York in 1985, they were originally a memory chip vendor; they have since expanded into flash memory, graphics cards, HDMI cables, and even battery chargers. It took me a while to realize that PNY wasn’t being represented in my project — and that’s probably due to the fact that, being an American company, you won’t usually come across their products being sold on AliExpress. But even outside of AliExpress, I was able to find some of their products that fell within my price range.

As you may have guessed from the pictures, this card was sold in a three-pack — so the price you see above is divided evenly between the three cards.

These cards met all of the criteria that I set out for being a name-brand card — so they’ll be included with the name-brand cards in my results.

On the performance front, all performance scores were above average — with the worst single measurement placing in the 56th percentile (as of the time of this writing). This card’s strength seems to be random write performance, which scored between the 90th and 92nd percentiles.

These cards bear the U3, V30, and A1 performance marks. (The Class 10 mark appears on the packaging, but does not appear on the card itself.) All three samples performed well enough to qualify for all of these marks. (Nice job, PNY!)

On the endurance testing front:

  • Samples #1’s first error was a two-sector wide address decoding error during round 948. It has survived 11,628 read/write cycles in total so far.
  • Sample #2’s first error was a two-sector wide address decoding error during round 875. It has survived 11,585 read/write cycles in total so far.
  • Sample #3’s first error was a four sector wide address decoding error during round 2,461. It has survived 12,527 read/write cycles in total so far.

Overall? This seems to be a decent card in terms of performance. Price per gigabyte was also below average. Skimp is a little high, but not the worst I’ve seen. In terms of endurance, it’s still too early to make any judgment calls (although things are looking good at the moment). I’d have to say that all-around, this is a decent card.
