SanDisk for Nintendo Switch 64GB

SanDisk is a well-known name in the flash memory industry. Founded in 1988, they developed the first flash-based SSD. They were later acquired by Western Digital in 2016, before being spun off as a public company in early 2025.

SanDisk is a name I’ve long been aware of, and one that — prior to this project — I was biased in favor of. I have a number of single-board computers that take microSD cards, and I typically defaulted to the SanDisk Ultra 16GB for their storage — and most of the time, had no issues with them. And since they’re such a major brand, I wanted to make sure they were properly represented in this project.

These cards were suggested by Reddit user u/rathersadgay (link). Thank you rathersadgay!

These cards met all the criteria that I set out for determining what’s considered a name brand card, so their results will be included in the name brand bucket in my results.

These cards actually did rather well on skimp, coming in at 0.21% — ergo, on a 64GB card, you’re getting about 63.9GB of usable space. For authentic cards, the average (as of the time I’m writing this) is 1.82% — so these cards did considerably better than average.

On the performance front: I’ve only tested one sample so far, but performance is looking…decent. Its strong point was sequential write speeds, where it was pretty well above average. In all other areas, it came in pretty close to average.

These cards don’t carry any performance marks. (Odd choice, SanDisk.) The package, however, carries the U3 and V30 performance marks. Performance was good enough to qualify for both of those marks.

On the endurance testing front:

  • Sample #1 has survived 12,070 read/write cycles and has not yet experienced any errors.
  • Samples #2 and #3 are still in the package, waiting to be tested.
